I’m Yichen Shang, the founder and owner of Syz Jewelry. I’m an Engineer turned Jeweler, In my prior years in career, I worked in oil rig and oil tanker building, then into bio heart stent design, later become jewelry design and fabrication. I spent most of my time in Singapore and United States, for work and study.
It was during my stay in US, I witnessed the closure of many brick and mortar jewelry stores, including many I was associated with, who find it hard to survive in the wave of e-commerce. Combing my knowledge in MBA study with these real life experience, I figured it is not the lack of elegance or glamour in their jewelry, it is the layer by layer added cost making their jewelry less competitive to the flooded mass produced costume jewelry. It is the tag price that blinded people from discovering the brilliance of their jewelry. I have a faith to connect these artists to the factory, combining their creativity and talent with manufacturing cost, with no minimum order quantity, and most importantly, the ability to full customize.
This is not an easy job as factories are demanding quantity and maximizing their production capacity. After years of exploring, I finally realized this goal by converting my factory into a design studio and dedicate to work for small quantity mix and match orders, leveraging the resource I had gathered in the years of OEM production.
I self taught myself to use JCAD, Photoshop and many other skills I would never use as an engineer. My life becomes more challenging but meaningful and I'm grateful to this change. I would love to share my resources and experience if it helps to add value to you and your business.
